camp sturtevant wedding

From home-tapped maple syrup to feathers in the bouquet, this camp wedding was packed with original personal touches.

When planning a wedding for a fellow wedding vendor you know they are going to pull out all the stops! Ashley Bohman is a very talented wedding photographer in Central Wisconsin and helping her with her wedding was such an honor. Ashley and Evan chose to get married on Thursday prior to their wedding reception on Saturday. They had a small intimate ceremony with just family and friends. While COVID has made this the norm, Ashley and Evan’s wedding  was pre-COVID and they chose to have such a small and intimate ceremony. Ashley wore her mother’s handed-down dress, had a lovely bouquet made, and finished the day with a romantic dinner at Shakeys! Talk about conventional mixed with unconventional, that is something we can get behind!

On Saturday Ashley and Evan had a tent set up at Camp Sturtevant, where Ashley was working at the time; It’s a YMCA summer camp right on the river. The river was a perfect spot for their ceremony. Although Ashley and Evan had already gotten married in their intimate church wedding, they chose to say their vows in front of family and friends while they all drank Champagne. Ashley had a sign made for the Arbor that said “The Best Day Ever” which, after the ceremony, made a perfect photo op! Speaking of photo ops, Ashley also had a photo-booth camper at her wedding: Faye the photo booth. Faye was an excellent addition to Ashley and Evan’s summer-camp-wedding vibe.

Ashley had a TeePee moved from the woods right next to the tent where we placed the soft seating. This gave guests extra seating right by the bar area. Ashley used our wooden bar cover to give an elegant feel to the outdoor bar, which also included a canoe filled with ice and beer! Ashley and Evan used picnic tables for seating with floor length tablecloths. She chose to have bowl centerpieces that gave a classic yet laid back feel to their wedding. Unconventionally, the couple opted to have breakfast for dinner and Rockman’s Catering served pancakes, sausage and eggs, while Ashley and Evan provided their own maple syrup! For dessert they featured a donut wall that they made. The colorful donuts offset by the dark wood was a great addition to the tented reception space. Wisconsin evenings can get pretty chilly at night and this night was no different. When the sun set it got so cold, but Ashley’s mom had made quilts for the guests to use, which was such a lovely personal touch! The evening ended with a sparkler exit that, as Ashley knows, photographs so well! All the photos taken at Evan and Ashley’s wedding turned out amazing and were shot by Splendid Musings, a photographer based out of Madison. Everything turned out so well, that they were featured in Wisconsin Bride Magazine!

Kasey is amazing. She truly understood what we wanted and made sure to make it happen! She took control of everything for us (as that is what we wanted)…She did an AMAZING job setting up and everything turned out just as we wanted and more. The flowers were STUNNING, people still ask us who did them! We couldn’t have asked for a better person to help us on our special day!
