Keeping A Journal
Keeping a journal is something I have done since I can remember. Writing down how I feel or what's going on in my life has always been a kind of a therapy for me. When my thoughts are completely scattered and my head starts to feel foggy it really helps to get those thoughts down on paper. I honestly feel like it's one of the best things you can do! Whenever I have a friend feeling lost or depressed I always tell them to journal. Some people say it doesn't work for them, they don't know what to say or how to get their thoughts down, but it doesn't have to be pretty. You aren't writing a book for others to read, you are simply trying to figure out exactly how you feel. I have even read articles that there are proven health benefits to journaling.
To be honest I haven't been keeping a journal lately and I can totally tell! I don't feel as focused and feel more overwhelmed. I was really discouraged when my journal from ages 19-22 (some VERY pivotal moments in my life, I might add) got misplaced. When I moved from Arizona to Minnesota my parents moved some books for me to a storage unit and some how in the move my journal got misplaced. I felt so awful after this happened I almost wanted to give up journaling all together! I really wanted to have that journal to look back on, but I realized that wasn't really the purpose of journaling. Even though I no longer had that journal it was a tremendous help in getting me through some of the hardest moments in my life.
Because of that I have started typing my journals and keeping them electronically. It's really helpful but I really love to write! To physically put pen to paper. For Christmas I received the Monte Blanc Augmented Paper Set, it was like a dream come true! You write on the paper and then it uploads them and saves them on your computer or iPad! BOOM! Problem solved.
I now challenge you to take sometime whether it's once a week or once a month to write your thoughts down on paper. If you don't know what to write just write down what's going on in your life and see where it takes you!
