Looking Back on the Past Twelve Months
This past week I turned 28, which isn't a milestone number, however this year was a milestone year. I like to reflect on the past 12 months when May 14th rolls around, and my what a year it has been! Getting engaged (on my birthday last year) was obviously the biggest highlight, but starting the blog, seeing two of my best friends get married in England, and channeling my inner #girlboss, are close behind. I can't stop smiling when I think of everything that has happened this past year, and I can't wait for what this next year will bring! (Like getting married!) Here are the top 5 highlights from this past year:
1. Getting Engaged
Mike proposed on May 14, 2015 (my birthday) last year. It was by far the biggest highlight of my year! Mike and I had been together about three and a half years and I was ready for him to pop the question. I knew that he was the person I wanted to spend my life with. For some reason, I had always thought that I would get married at age 27, but having Mike propose on my 27th birthday was incredible. I had run so many scenarios of him proposing through my head, but I never thought it would happen on my birthday. He handed me a birthday card and when I looked up he was down on one knee and Harper was right by his side. One year ago today, was the best day of my life thus far, and on September 24, I can't wait to walk down the aisle.
2. Starting the Blog
This time last year I started Kase Styles. I texted my friend, co-worker, and talented photographer Andi Stempniak and asked if she would be willing to take photos of me for my blog. I love my job but wanted a creative outlet, but it turned into so much more than just a place for me to showcase my fashion. It has grown into a space where I can share things that I have learned, people that inspire me, and has allowed me to become part of an incredible blogging community.
Here are some of my top blog posts:
3. Seeing my Two Best Friends Get Married in England
I had the honor and privilege of seeing two of my best friends; Sam Campbell and Vicky Carter(now Campbell) get married in England. (Sam is actually going to be officiating my wedding) Mike and I took the opportunity and travelled England and Ireland for two weeks. It was such an incredible experience to travel with Mike. We are complete nerds and did a self guided Game of Thrones tour around Ireland seeing all the post where they film the show.
However, the icing on the cake was being in Oakham, England with my closest friends (who are more like family) and seeing Vicky walk down the aisle. I got to meet some of Vicky's closest friends, including Vicky Norgate, who instantly became a part of our family. It was an incredible experience to be a part of, seeing their lives, friends, and family; from two sides of the world unite.
4. Attending the Create and Cultivate Conference
Blogging has become such a big part of my life and being able to attend the Create and Cultivate conference in Dallas was a life changing experience. I got to meet some incredible people including two of my favorite bloggers; Julia Engel of Gal Meets Glam and Mary Seng of Happily Grey. (They are so sweet by the way!) There is such a community in blogging, it was great to feel that community in person rather than behind the computer screen.
5. All the People I have Met This Past Year
This year I got to meet so many incredible, positive, and inspiring people. I met Vicky and Sam's friends at their wedding who basically became instant friends. I couldn't believe how positive and welcoming they were. Our wedding photographers Kelsy and Butch McCartneyhave become more than just our photographers, they have become our friends, and are some of the sweetest people we have ever met.
Through Style Collective I have met some great bloggers that have become more like friends. We keep in contact continuously commenting on each other's Instagram, we have done some Google hang outs, and I have exchanged posts with some of them like Kait from Make Mine Maroon and Annie the Co Founder of Style Collective. All the people I have met over this past year have been nothing but caring and supportive, and I am so grateful I have had the opportunity to know each and every one of them.
