My Morning Routine

 

One thing that has been a VERY positive change in my life is my new morning routine/ritual. I am trying really hard to start each day on the right track and now that I work from home it has become much easier to do that. An important part of the routine is that I don’t allow myself to check my phone or computer until it is done. This helps me from getting distracted and jumping straight into the hustle and bustle of the day.

My morning looks a little something like this. 

  • Wake up wash face, brush teeth, put on work out clothes
  • Drink a Glass of Water
  • Work Out
  • Make Coffee
  • Write out my to do list for the day (otherwise I get distracted for the next part) 
  • Meditate
  • Pray + Visualize
  • Positive Affirmations
  • Journal

Work Out

Some people meditate and then work out. I am not the biggest fan of working out and if I don’t do it first thing I might not do it at all! Especially if I sit down and want to jump into my day. I try to not give myself the option. It’s a nonnegotiable, the first thing I do is get water and work out- I know it’s necessary so I get it out of the way. 

To Do List

I tried doing this after my morning routine and as the starting point to my work day, but it kept creeping into my morning routine, so I decided to add it to my morning routine. This way I get my thoughts down and out of the way and can clear my mind to focus my energy on a positive start to the day. 

Meditate

Meditating is a struggle for me because my mind wanders to all the things I need to get done, but it’s something you have to practice, I am starting small with just 5-10 minutes in the morning. When a thought comes into my mind I just think ‘still your mind’ and I allow the thought to leave. If something REALLY pressing comes up that I can’t stop thinking about I write it down and let it go. 

Pray + Visualize

I try to release my control over to God, The Universe, whatever you want to call it. I try to focus my energy on knowing that I have control over my attitude and how I approach the day, but I am not alone and I know that there is something bigger at play. I am really trying to let go of any self-doubt that may arise and let go of my ego. You are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life, really helped me refocus this. I visualize what my ideal life looks like and focus my energy on that, I ask God to help me get there, but I also know his plan might be bigger and better than I can ever imagine! 

Positive Affirmations

This is something that I have just recently added into my morning routine (as in this morning). I was going through Pinterest and saw someone else morning routine and loved the idea of adding positive affirmations to the day. I tend to be a positive person in general, but there is something really powerful about saying these affirmations out loud. I found some amazing Positive Affimations on This Blog and really love them. 

Journal

Journaling is SUPER important to me but for some reason I wasn’t making the time for it. I always tried to fit it in before I went to bed, but then realized that I don’t have to recap the day at night I can write about it the next day. It’s kind of like working out, if I don’t do it first thing in the morning I might not get to it. It also helps clear my mind and set me up for a successful day! 

 

My morning routine has really helped me to start the day off right. It helps me to feel more relaxed and has really helped me with my New Years Resolutions, which was to do all things with intention and purpose. My morning routine works for me and helps me focus on my goals and aspirations. The most important thing is that it allows me to reflect on what I hope to achieve in life. It reminds me that even though I have lofty goals and aspirations, all I can do is focus on the here and now and take it one day at a time.
