Wear the Outfit

Sometimes, we own something that is so nice, we tend to think we need to save it for a special occasion. We may get a new outfit, and because it’s so perfect, we talk ourselves into saving it for ‘just the right time.’)  I’m telling you now: wear the outfit.

Burn the candles; use the nice sheets; wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion.

Today is special. You will never say, "I wish I wouldn't have worn this outfit I love so much that makes me feel incredible."

(some of my favorite outfits: 1,2,3,4)

Growing up, my mom would buy us a ‘back to school outfit’ in anticipation of the new school year. Every summer I would wait patiently, I couldn’t for the first day of school, just so that I could wear that outfit! As I got older I continued to wait, letting new outfits hang in my closet, just as my back to school outfit had, waiting for the right moment to wear it. I didn’t want to waste the grand reveal on just anything. Then I read someadvice from a 90-year-old woman, and she was right, life is too short to put off life’s luxuries. Now I just go in my closet, tear the shirt off the hanger, and wear the dang thing! What good is it doing hanging in my closet? I should wear it like it’s going out of style, because let’s face it: it probably is!

In that same breath, I now try to buy clothes with the thought that every outfit should feel that amazing. If an article of clothing doesn’t make me feel fantastic, then I don’t want it. Of course I have items I prefer over others, but I only want things in my closet that I can’t wait to put on, just like that girl on the first day of school! I know some people don’t feel that way; clothes are just something they have to wear, but I relish piecing together great outfits and wearing something that makes me feel good. Some people express themselves through painting or music, but fashion is my form of self-expression, my creative outlet. Some days I try 2 or 3 outfits before I get one that I feel best in, and that can be frustrating! Just like when your hair won’t lay the same way it had when it was just right, but I really like to take the time in the morning to evaluate how I am going to start each day off right, and for me it all starts from that great outfit.  Feeling great in what I am weary helps my day right and just makes me feel happy! Life’s too short not to do what makes us happy right!?
