ali indian wedding

The flowers may have been from the couple’s first wedding (this is the second in two days!), but the yoga, henna, and hand-made sarees—with some thoughtful floral rearranging—made this wedding totally its own.

To truly blend their families, Stef + Hussain felt it was important to honor both family’s traditions and have both a Western wedding and an Indian Wedding.  On Friday, Stef + Hussain were married in a church and had a traditional American wedding. Then, on Saturday, Stef + Hussain had an Indian ceremony and reception.  We worked together with Hussain, his cousin, and his best man in order to plan this just right!

The Saturday began with yoga led by the best man and his girlfriend on the 400 block, a park that covers one city block of downtown Wausau that features a stage, splash pad, and green grass.  Prem, the best man, had us order nice cork yoga mats for everyone participating to use and take with them - and was even so generous to gift us one as well!  After morning yoga, friends and family could get a Henna Tattoo from Henna Blossom and finish getting ready before the evening’s events.  Indian Wedding tradition includes a Mehndi (henna) ceremony to be held as a way to wish the bride good health and prosperity as she makes her way into marriage.  The significance of applying Mehndi- is to utilize its natural medicinal herbal remedies to cool the body and relieve stress before the day.  It also serves as a way for the women on both sides of the family to connect.

While guests enjoyed their afternoon, the Kase Styles team was busy finishing set up in The Great Hall at The Grand Theater, a beautiful historic theater adjacent to the 400 Block.  We were able to use the bright pink flowers from the event the day before in order to make the most of everything while adapting to a completely different design by combining them with palms and peach garden roses. The tables were covered with a mix of patterned and bright linens that complimented the gold accents throughout the space to create a very rich and luxurious look. We made an ombré carnation and fabric backdrop that guests used for a photo opportunity upon arrival and was used again for the backdrop behind Stef + Hussain during their ceremony. Many of Hussain’s family were involved throughout this ceremony:  readings, games, and blessings, all from cousins, sisters, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Hussain’s mother hand-made many of the lehengas and sarees that were worn at the wedding. What a meaningful and beautiful touch!

Following their ceremony, an authentic Indian buffet-style dinner was catered by Maharana from Madison, WI. Once everyone had a chance to eat and drink, the dance floor was cleared for Sangeet choreographed dances to begin.  Both families and friends got in on the celebration: with Hussain’s family starting the party, followed by his aunts, then Stef’s family and friends, Hussain’s cousins, friends, and a group dance combining both sides!  DJ OZA kept everyone dancing all night under the twinkling lights of the Great Hall.

We couldn’t be happier that Stef + Hussain chose us to help them celebrate both of their stunning events!

We asked the KS team to plan not only one, but two events in less than four months. We had an illness in the family and wanted to make sure my Grandfather could partake in the events. The KS team was up for the challenge. Not only did they plan two events, but they reused the flowers from the first event and made brand new arrangements for the second event. All the guests were completely astonished with how each event was so different, not only from each other but from any event they’d been to! We are so grateful to the KS team for everything they did in such a short period of time.
